NCAA Regional Sites Announced
CHN Staff Report
INDIANAPOLIS The trend to move NCAA games off campus continued today with the announcement of NCAA Regional site locations for 2010 and 2011.
The 2010 Midwest Regional will be at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind., for the first time -- hosted by Notre Dame. The West Regional for that year will be at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. -- hosted by Minnesota.
In 2011, the Midwest Regional returns to the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis. -- hosted by Michigan Tech. The West Regional will be at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, home of the 2007 Frozen Four.
The East and Northeast Regional locations for those years were previously announced.
"The ice hockey committee is excited to announce these sites as we had a tremendous amount of interest shown by cities across the Midwest," said Joel Maturi, chair of the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee. "We focused on selecting sites that have NHL size ice sheets and are in neutral buildings. We really feel that each of these buildings will showcase college hockey, give our student-athletes a tremendous experience and help take our championship to another level."
Just for the sake of accuracy, the 2010 East regional in Albany, NY will be held at the Times-Union Center which is the current name of the former Pepsi Arena.

Would it kill somebody to look up what they were and include them in the story? Sheesh.

That's why the link "Upcoming Regional Locations" is included at the bottom of the story.

i like how they are going to neutral sites and then give the Goofs two regionals in a row in their back yard.

Where else would you put the regionals in Minnesota, or surrounding area. They said that they want NHL size rinks and they want to get away from arenas that are on campus. There is no more opportunity for Gopher fans to get there than there is for the Huskies, Bulldogs ect. If any of these teams that make the tourney, then there fans have just as much opportunity to get tickets for the games as the Gophers do. Sounds like some sioux fans are bitter that they weren't selected to host a regional. Oh wait, they can't till they change the name.

Hey skippy nothing like making the west regional a home game for the Goofs. Why not let UMD, SCSU, MSU-M or UND be the host regional.
The fact that the UMN ad is on the board makes it look like a conflict of interest.

Fine, give the regional to SCSU, UMD or even Mankato. But why would they give it to UND when they are not even in the state of MInnesota. Last time I checked UND was in North Dakota.

Xcel Energy Center is a great place to have an NCAA tourney. Look at the success of the WCHA Final Five year after year...I've heard many Siouxage fans even compliment that tourney. The arena just happens to be in the MSP metro area...get over it. BTW, the Mariucci West Regional was not part of this announcement...it had been decided a year before. Oh yeah, and I remember not too long ago The Ralph was the host of the West Regional. Any place they choose is gonna have some "home-team" influence. Denver would be a home game for DU, Detroit would be a virtual home advantage for any Michigan team, Boston is a home game for BU or BC. I mean, should they play these games in Carolina for god's sake?? Wow.
